 A seminar organized by the Bangladesh Institute of Development and Security Studies (BIDSS) in collaboration with Fast Security Islami Bank brought together influential figures to discuss the vital role of Non-Resident Bangladeshis (NRBs) in rebuilding Bangladesh's economic sectors. The event, held in New York on Saturday, emphasized the importance of secure banking channels for expatriates’ remittances and investment in the country's economic recovery.

US, Bangladesh Leaders Affirm Strong Partnership and Support Reform Efforts

US President Joseph R. Biden and Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus have reaffirmed the robust partnership between Washington and Dhaka, underscoring shared democratic values and deep-rooted people-to-people connections. The leaders met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, where President Biden welcomed further engagement between the two governments and pledged continued US support for Bangladesh's reform agenda, according to a White House statement. President Biden congratulated Prof Yunus on his recent appointment as the head of Bangladesh's interim government. Indian Government Employee Arrested for Murder-for-Hire Plot Targeting U.S.-Based Sikh Separatist Leader

In a shocking revelation today, the Southern District of New York unsealed a superseding indictment, accusing Indian national Nikhil Gupta, 52, of orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot to assassinate a U.S.-based leader of the Sikh separatist movement. Gupta, also known as Nick, was arrested by Czech authorities on June 30, 2023, pursuant to the bilateral extradition treaty between the United States and the Czech Republic.

Queens Constituents Call on Rep. Meng to Demand a Ceasefire in Gaza

QUEENS, NY – On Friday, November 24, over 200 concerned constituents gathered outside Rep. Grace Meng’s Flushing office to urge her to join the growing chorus of voices calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. The current ceasefire, which went into effect earlier that morning, was already violated by Israeli airstrikes as Gazans attempted to return to their homes in northern Gaza. The death toll in Gaza has now surpassed 15,000 Palestinian lives. Despite the escalating death toll, Rep. Meng has yet to join the 44 Congressional Representatives and 3 Senators who have called for a ceasefire.

House Censures Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Sparks Concern Among Muslim Community

The House of Representatives voted 234-188 to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., over her remarks related to Israel and Palestinians. Twenty-two Democrats joined Republicans in voting to formally rebuke Tlaib for her comments. The measure, sponsored by Georgia Republican Rich McCormick, accuses Tlaib of "promoting false narratives regarding the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel and for calling for the destruction of the state of Israel." It is the second attempt to formally punish Tlaib over her comments about the war.

Calling out Israel’s war-crimes is NOT anti-Semitic:AMP

American Muslims for Palestine (AMP) has expressed its deep concern over recent Senate resolutions that aim to condemn antisemitism. The organization emphasizes that while they unequivocally condemn all forms of hatred, including antisemitism, they believe that the language and framing of these resolutions present a one-sided narrative that could stifle critical discourse about Israel's actions and policies. AMP is worried that this one-sided approach may contribute to Islamophobia and Palestinephobia.

Mamdani Introduces Bill to Stop New York State Charities from Funding Illegal Israeli Settlements

Amid an escalation in settler violence encouraged by Israel’s right-wing government, Assembly Member Zohran K. Mamdani introduced crucial legislation (A6943) to cease New York State’s complicity in violations of international human rights laws in occupied Palestine. The first of its kind in the U.S., the bill prohibits New York-based organizations with charitable status from funding illegal Israeli settlement activities that violently expel Palestinians from their generational homes and land. 

Over 20 State Legislators Call On Governor To Include Fare Freeze, Free Bus Funding In Budget

The one-house budget proposals released last week by both houses of the New York State Legislature include a fare freeze at $2.75, and free bus pilot for 2 routes per borough (10 in total).

U.S. Sanctions Leadership of Iranian UAV Manufacturer

The United States is designating eight Iranian individuals in leadership roles at Paravar Pars, an Iranian firm that produces unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Aerospace Force.  Iranian UAVs are being transferred to Russia for use in its brutal and unprovoked war against Ukraine. 

CAIR, Coalition Condemn House GOP’s Vote to Remove Rep. Omar

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s most significant Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today joined a coalition of American Muslim, Arab-American, Jewish, and Iranian-American groups to respond to the removal of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from her position on the House Foreign Affairs Committee following a vote held by House Republicans. 

Condolences on Helicopter Crash in Ukraine by SECRETARY ANTONY J. BLINKEN

I was deeply saddened to hear this morning’s terrible news from Brovary, Ukraine. On behalf of the United States, I offer my sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of all of those killed in the helicopter crash, including our friends Minister of Internal Affairs Denys Monastyrskyy, First Deputy Minister Yevhen Yenin, and State Secretary Yuri Lubkovych. Mayors declared extra budget for Halal food in the NYC school

New York City Mayor Eric Adams and New York City Department of Education Chancellor David C. Banks today announced the expansion of the Cafeteria Enhancement Experience (CEE), as part of the city's reimagining of the student dining experience and city's ongoing commitment to health and nutrition. With an additional $50 million in capital funding in Fiscal Year 2023, the CEE initiative will transform more than 80 cafeterias into warm and welcoming spaces for students to enjoy nutritious meals.
