United States (US) envoy to Bangladesh, Peter Haas, on Wednesday (December 14, 2022), was forced to shorten his visit to a family of a victim of enforced disappearance in Bangladesh's capital Dhaka as a group of pro-government people desperately gathered in front of the victim's residence in Shaheen Bagh area of the city, causing a commotion outside the gate.
After the sudden withdrawal of special security facilities and permanent police escort, this is the first time the US Ambassador to Dhaka, Peter D. Haas, has participated in any of the foreign ministry's demands. Yesterday, he attended a lunch-cum-diplomatic briefing at the State Guest House Padma at the invitation of Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam.
In a decisive move, the United States Department of State announced today the imposition of sanctions on a transnational procurement network known to be linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). This network, consisting of five entities and two individuals based in Iran, the People’s Republic of China (PRC), Hong Kong, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates, has been actively involved in acquiring sensitive components for Iran’s one-way attack unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) program.
