The Appellate Division on Monday cleared the way for the trial of Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus and three employees of his Grameen Telecom Company by a lower court in a labor law case. A three-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Justice Md Nuruzzaman, dismissed two appeal petitions filed by Yunus, also the chairman of Grameen Telecom and the company’s director Nurjahan Begum against a High Court’s verdict.

The leaders met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, where President Biden welcomed further engagement between the two governments and pledged continued US support for Bangladesh's reform agenda, according to a White House statement. President Biden congratulated Prof Yunus on his recent appointment as the head of Bangladesh's interim government. Prof Yunus, a Nobel laureate, was sworn in as Chief Adviser on August 8, following the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina amid a mass student-led uprising.
